About Me

My photo
I'm a reader who enjoys posting comments and recommendations about the books I read. You will not find a synopsis with my recommendations because you can just click on the book title for a link to www.goodreads.com for a synopsis and reviews by other readers. I prefer the 3 Reason format: the reason I chose to read it; the reason I liked (or disliked) the book; and the reason I recommend it.

The Narrow PathThe Narrow Path by Gail Sattler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was free from Barnes and Noble when I downloaded it to my Nook library in 2012.
I can recommend it to any reader who prefers the romance genre, even those who might be reluctant to try a romance that is also Christian fiction. The conflict is between a traditional Mennonite and a comtemporary Mennonite without proselytizing to the reader.

The Italian's Inexperienced Mistress (Ruthless)The Italian's Inexperienced Mistress by Lynne Graham
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This ebook was free from Barnes and Noble when I downloaded it to my Nook library in 2012.
I used to read books like this a long time ago. Now I just roll my eyes. Why did I ever think relationships like this were entertaining reads?
I recommend it only for readers who also enjoy soap operas and Dr. Phil.

Someday HomeSomeday Home by Lauraine Snelling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When Goodreads informed me this author had a new book, I borrowed it from the local library.
I enjoyed the characters and their backgrounds. There is no villian in this story as the conflict comes from the necessary changes and growth. While I say there are no villians, there are some characters worth walking away from.
I recommend it to all readers, especially mature women who might want a good book about relatable women.

The Okefenokee Swamp (Time-Life American Wilderness Series)The Okefenokee Swamp by Franklin Russell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is on the American Wilderness shelf of my home library. I enjoy the photography by Patricia Caulfield, and now I take time to read the text by Franklin Russell.
The well-written text made this area appealling until I really consider how much I hate mucking about in land so difficult to travel across that is filled with mosquitoes.
I recommend this book for all armchair travelers.

Freakonomics (and Other Riddles of Modern Life)Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was free during an Oct 2014 promotion from Barnes and Noble when I downloaded it to my Nook library.
Here are eight take-aways from the book:

1. Incentives are cornerstones of modern life.
2. Knowing what to measure, and how to measure it, can make a complicated world less so.
3.The conventional wisdom is often wrong.
4. Dramatics effects often have distant, even subtle, causes.
5.Correlation does not equal causality.
6. It is easy to let your biases color your view of the world.
7. It is tempting to run with the herd as we are quick to embrace the status quo, slow to change our minds, and happy to delegate our thinking.
8. Too busy to think.

I recommend it only to readers who find its topics interesting.

The North Woods (Time-Life American Wilderness Series)The North Woods by Percy Knauth
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is part of the American Wilderness series on my shelf in my home library.  I always enjoyed the pictures, and now I take time to read the text.
...we lived like deer or loons, measuring our days by the sun, eating when we were hungry, falling asleep when we were tired, waking up when we had slept enough.  There is no better restorative for a mind and body wearied by the pace of civilized living.

I recommend this to all readers.

I am catching up on the series by Elaine Viets.  I like this series because I like the emphasis on Josie's family.  Finally this is a cozy murder mystery with only one corpse.
I recommend it to all readers of cozy mystery, and this could be a good start for the new reader.

Elisha's BonesElisha's Bones by Don Hoesel
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This ebook was free from Barnes and Noble when I downloaded it to my Nook library.
The adventure story started off promising and slowly deteriorated into mediocre with relentless bad guys doing their worst to those who offer help to the protagonist.

Into the FreeInto the Free by Julie Cantrell
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This free ebook has been in my Nook library since Feb 2012.
I knew it was Christian fiction so that did not surprise me.  I thought there was just too much hardship, heartache, and trouble for one book to resolve with Christian faith alone.
I will not be looking for more books by this author.

Catnapped! (A Dead-End Job Mystery, #13)Catnapped! by Elaine Viets
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have fallen behind on reading the two series by Elaine Viets, and I had time this summer to read cozy mysteries.
As always, I enjoy Viet's work.  I'm getting to the point where I think some authors put too many corpses in a cozy mystery.  This one went over my limit, and I only rated it three stars.
