About Me

I'm a reader who enjoys posting comments and recommendations about the books I read. You will not find a synopsis with my recommendations because you can just click on the book title for a link to www.goodreads.com for a synopsis and reviews by other readers. I prefer the 3 Reason format: the reason I chose to read it; the reason I liked (or disliked) the book; and the reason I recommend it.

Caribbean Isles (Time-Life American Wilderness Series)Caribbean Isles by Peter Wood
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book has been in my home library because I once had a subscription to the Time-Life American Wilderness series.  I always enjoyed the pictures; but only recently have I begun to enjoy the text too.
This is great armchair travel material for I can imagine being on the same hikes and diving trips.
I recommend it for all readers.

The Vow: The True Events that Inspired the MovieThe Vow: The True Events that Inspired the Movie by Kim Carpenter
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This ebook was free when I downloaded it to my Nook library in 2012.  I saw the movie before I read the book.
The story is inspirational, and it is told in a simple, straightforward manner as Kim's testimony of the strong  Christian faith Kim and Krickett have.
This book may be recommended for even young-adult readers.

Leaving Before It's OverLeaving Before It's Over by Jean Reynolds Page
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This ebook was a Free Friday selection from Barnes and Noble on 4-6-2012.
I enjoyed this family drama because this reader could care about the characters; so much so, I wanted to snatch cigarettes out of the hands of several of the characters because it is not good for them.
I recommend this book to all readers who prefer the genre of family drama.

Allies and Enemies: How the World Depends on BacteriaAllies and Enemies: How the World Depends on Bacteria by Anne E. Maczulak
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was free when I downloaded it to my Nook library on June 15, 2012.
Maczulak writes so this subject holds the attention for a general interest reader.  I learned a lot of information that has occurred since I studied microbiology 42 years ago such as DNA can be used to identify the source of a bacterial contaminant and rule out others.
I recommend it to readers of non-fiction with an interest in this area. Others may struggle with the names assigned to the bacteria.

Perfect Island Getaways from 1,000 Places to See Before You Die: The Caribbean, Bahamas & BermudaPerfect Island Getaways from 1,000 Places to See Before You Die: The Caribbean, Bahamas & Bermuda by Patricia Schultz
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was free when I downloaded it to my Nook library.
This is a sampler of 27 islands, and some of those islands have as many as 6 specific places to visit and specific activities.  It may be useful when planning your Caribbean vacation as there are additional resources for each chapter. Sometimes I find the book repetitive because its recommendations tend to be of three general categories: water sports, nightlife, and restaurants.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Ozarks is another book in the Time-Life "The American Wilderness" series which I have in my home library.
I have always enjoyed the pictures, and I finally have taken the time to read all the text which is well-written.
I recommend to all armchair travelers.

Hawaii or the Caribbean?Hawaii or the Caribbean? by Lonely Planet
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book was free when I downloaded it to my Nook library from Barnes and Noble.  I grouped my travel books from my nonfiction shelf and those are the ones I'm reading on this Nook.
This is a sampler with a tidbit of basic information taken from other Lonely Planet books. As for the question of Hawaii or the Caribbean, the answer seems to be based on how expensive or how long will your airplane ride be.  There are many links to other websites for specific countries.
I recommend this only if it is still available for free.

Blue Hole Back HomeBlue Hole Back Home by Joy Jordan-Lake
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was free when I downloaded it to my Nook library from Barnes and Noble.
We meet Shelby Lenoir as an adult who works and lives in Boston.  The story shifts to her life in 1979 North Carolina during the summer she meets Farsanna, an immigrant from Sri Lanka.  I like the character development of this story.
I recommend it to all readers who enjoy historical fiction for the author accurately depicts 1979.

MichalMichal by Jill Eileen Smith
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Michal was free when I downloaded it to my Nook library from Barnes and Noble.
I enjoy historical fiction where the author takes a named figure and expands upon what is known about that figure with what is known about an historical era into a well-written story.  Yes, there were some parts that slowed too much; but, I still wanted to know what happened next.
I recommend it to readers who enjoy historical fiction based on a Bible story.

The Devil's CradleThe Devil's Cradle by Sylvia Nobel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This ebook was free when I downloaded it to my Nook library.
The protagonist is an investigative reporter, and this makes sense for a cozy mystery series.
I recommend this book for readers who prefer cozy mysteries.

Moon National Parks SamplerMoon National Parks Sampler by Avalon Authors
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This sampler was free when I downloaded it to my Nook library in 2012.  I have used some of the Moon guidebooks for trips to National Parks and I recommend the paperbacks because you can tear out the necessary pages and stick in your pack.  This maps in this ebook could not zoom on my Nook.

My Family Record Book: The Easy Way to Organize Personal Information, Financial Plans, and Final Wishes for Seniors, Caregivers, Estate Executors, etc.My Family Record Book: The Easy Way to Organize Personal Information, Financial Plans, and Final Wishes for Seniors, Caregivers, Estate Executors, etc. by Harris Rosen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was recommended to me, and other members of genealogy groups, by Thomas MacEntee. It was free when I downloaded it to my Kindle app. It may still be free for you.
The easy way mentioned in the subtitle is to use Word to make a document and to use its Insert Table function to make information easy to find, read, and use for our survivors. His good advice includes making a table of telephone numbers for your aquaintances (such as golfing buddies or Red Hat club members) that your survivors may not know you want to let them know that you passed. He also suggests tables for chores usually done by only one person in the family so the others may learn where to find the checkbooks and savings books, where to go for oil changes, how to start the lawn mower or the washing machine. The hard part of this book remains actually completing your own information and getting cooperation from others so you may write down their information.
I recommend this to EVERYONE, even if you are extremely young with your whole life ahead of you.
