My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book was on the New shelf of my local library, and the name Grinnell immediately attracted my attention as I have pleasant memories of Grinnell Mountain, Grinnell Glacier, and Grinnell Lake.
This is a well-written and well-researched biography of George Bird Grinnell who had such a full life and made such an effort to protect natural areas and the history of the West before they disappeared.
There were words used in the correspondence of educated men of the 19th century that sent me to my dictionary, and I am pleased to add them to my vocabulary. It is a long book but the last quarter of the book is Notes, Bibliography, and Index so that it may encourage research for others.
I recommend it for any reader who enjoys biography.
