Overcoming: Lessons From Life's Challenges

 

I highly recommend this memoir for a either a book club or for a Bible study group which enjoys books about living individuals.
This is well-written, and many other people may enjoy it.

The Unforgivable Fix

This e-book has been in My Digital Library since July 6, 2015.  

The author paced the story well and has interesting characters.  This is the third book of a six-book series, and I had no difficulty starting with the third book in the series. 

I recommend it because the story is more about the mystery than about too many gruesome details of violence.

Becoming Us

This e-book has been in My Digital Library since April 3, 2016.  
 Sometimes I wish these characters would seek therapy, but maybe colleges did not have mental health services available when the book was written in 2014. 

I gave it two stars.    

Forever Dreams

This e-book has been in My Digital Library since January 30, 2016.  

I enjoyed the premise of the story; but I dropped it down to 3 stars because some scenes were too graphic for this prude to recommend it to my friends.  
 

Keep the Memories, Lose the Stuff

This is the book I went to the library for because many influencers recommend it as a good place for more information when one is decluttering our own memorabilia plus the stuff we have inherited or been given as gifts from family and friends.  You know what I am talking about--some simple thing that has an emotional attachment--but now there just may not be space for it now.  

This book has 30 pages of Resources.  

The most important task is to tell the story that this thing triggers, and write it down.  Then take a photo.  Will that be enough of a memory for you?  

I give this book 5 stars.

 It is science fiction/fantasy so I have given up on the expectation that the ending will be sensible.

Only Time Will Tell

This e-book has been in My Digital Library since November 6, 2015.  

Aagh! I hate how this book ends because you know that there HAS to be more to the story!

And there are, six more books in The Clifton Chronicles.  

I remind myself I have been decluttering books this year by reading the books on my shelves, and I still have 286 more books in My Digital Library as part of the 407 on my Goodreads Want-To-Read list, and right now I am not interested in adding 6 more this year. 

I might have given this book four stars if it did not have such a cliff-hanging ending; but I dropped it to three stars.   
 

it's Hard to Make a Difference When You Can't Find Your Keys

Finding gems, like this book, are a reason I often pick up the book next to the one for which I was looking at my library.  It was located in section 648.8.  I renewed it two times and took pages of notes from the questions asked to help me break through my resistance to actually starting many projects I moved when my husband and I downsized 7 years ago.  Yes, my "going-to-do" needed grounding and put on the actual schedule.  There is progress.  

I highly recommend this book.  I gave it 5 stars.     
 

Grave Talk

When you need a good laugh about a difficult topic, this may be a book.  It helped me recognize how awkward I am when someone I care about is still grieving, and I just want to get on and see they are feeling better and done with the grief.  

4 stars for I might recommend it to a friend.

This was a good story about the start of a local charity organization that was built on a framework of the charity Diller Community Foundation.

This is another e-book from Harlequin that I added to My Digital Library on October 18, 2015.  It must have been part of a special promotion from #Free Friday.  

This e-book highlights the charity, Goodie Two Shoes Foundation (GTSF) that enabled children in need to choose their own shoes from a mobile store that prevents stigmatization.

This e-book has been in My Digital Library since October 18, 2015.  

This is a story that I enjoyed and want to recommend to others.  It is about changing a persona to reflect who you want to be in new circumstances; it is about finding supportive friends; and it is about learning to be a supportive family member.

Good Neighbors

This e-book has been in My Digital Library since October 18, 2015.  

Sometimes I have to roll my eyes at the naivete of the heroine when it comes to only asking one bank for a loan instead of seeking competitive financing and when an engaged woman turns over significant property as a gift, and her parents agree it's a good idea.  I rated it 2 stars.

It is a good mystery, and I recommend it if you can still find it at your local library.

This Kindle book has been in my Kindle library since August 2024 when it was offered as a Prime First Reads selection.  

It is a short story. 
 

Fatal Intrusion

I downloaded the Kindle edition when it was promoted as a First Reads selection on August 5, 2024 because i previously read a different mystery by Jeffery Deaver.  

This is scary and suspenseful.  It opens the way for more books with these characters.  I recommend it.  

I gave it 4 stars.    
 

Wicked

This e-book has been in My Digital Library since September 11, 2015 when I downloaded it from Barnes and Noble.  

I enjoyed trying to imagine what political points of view this author seemed to ascribe to the Munchkins, Gillikins, Quadlings, and others in the 2008s and 2009 when this book was published to what Baum published in 1900.  I read it before the election in 2024.  

I recommend this book for the Afterword essay by the author who explains the difference between fairy tales and fantasy, and why we continue to use our imagination to help us find our own way there and back again.  

I rated it 5 stars.   
 

Sorrento Beach

 This e-book has been in My Digital Library since May 31, 2015.  

The author uses the setting as an additional character, and I felt as if I were on the beach watching the volleyball games in 1977.  The concern Paul Townsend has for his friend is believable.  I recommend this mystery to others.  

I rate it 4 stars.

Making Space, Clutter Free

I borrowed this book from my local library.  

I agree with her assumption of seven Clutter Blocks that people may have as decluttering occurs.  In the Clutter Block #3 or The Stuff I'm Avoiding, she did have a phrase, "...confront the autopsy of his failure" which I noted.  

I often found the phrasing and style of her writing to be off-putting, and that is why I rated this book 3 stars.   

Deeper Than The Dead

This has been in my Kindle library since July 1, 2024.  

I was annoyed by all the ruminating thoughts about the need to keep secrets to protect others and yourself.  

I rate it 3 stars. 

 

The Secret

 

I borrowed this book from my local library.  

This is the type of Reacher book I enjoy because it is more about the detective work as this group of people from different agencies or services try to protect individuals who formerly worked together on a project in India.  

  The ending did drag on a bit too long.  

I rated it 5 stars.

This is what happens when two Shmucks will not back down one evening in Montreal. 

It was an entertaining read.

I took a star away because I had to roll my eyes at how presumptuous the heroine could be even after others had told her that this culture preferred not to accept charity and had explained the difference in their culture.

Imaginary Things

This ebook has been in My Digital Library since April 17, 2015.  

I am glad I did not let the tag of magical realism keep me from reading this book because I liked the characters enough to recommend this book to a friend.  The characters became very real in my own imagination, even David's imaginary friends King Rex and Weeple. 

I rated this book 4 stars, one I would recommend to a friend.

The Death Factory

 

This ebook has been in My Digital Library since April 10, 2015.  It is a novella to fill in back story before the release of Natchez Burning.  

I found it to be well-written and interesting.  I decided to continue my project of reading books I already own in My Digital Library instead of checking for Natchez Burning.

I gave it 3 stars.

Vacuuming in the Nude and Other Ways to Get Attention

I was unaware of this book until I watched a YouTube video from her celebrity son Mike Rowe and his promotion of her upcoming book. I looked for her previous books at the library, and this one was available through the Libby app.  

I would classify her stories as "slice of life." 

The book was entertaining and easy to recommend to friends of mine. 
 

In Cold Blood

This ebook has been in My Digital Library since May 27, 2015.  

It was OK, but to read it 10 years after it was written makes some details seem dated.  

There was no need for me to search for the next book in the series.  
 

The Inn at Rose Harbor

This ebook has been in My Digital Library since July 11, 2015.  

It is entertaining.  It is the first book in a series, and I had no need to look for the next book in the series.  I have so many books in my digital library, and the 2024 reading goal is to have fewer than 458 books on my Goodreads Want To Read shelf.  
 

Montana Creeds: Tyler

 I used my Libby app to download from my local library.  

This winds up the story of three half-brothers who will work together on a cattle ranch now that they each marry the woman of their dreams.  

Two stars out of five.  

Montana Creeds: Dylan

 This author put a whole lot of story between where Logan ends and the book, Tyler starts.  I felt disappointed I had to read this book before I knew the next scene at the end of Logan.  Again, the sex scenes were too graphic for this prude so pages were swiped.  

I borrowed this book on the Libby app from my local library.  

 

Logan: Montana Creeds #1

 I downloaded this ebook to My Digital Library on August 23, 2024 when Barnes and Noble offered it as the "Free Friday" promotion.  It was easy to open on my Nook while I was on a road trip during Labor Day weekend.  

I enjoyed the story of a man trying to change the reputation of his family by being a better man, and the story of a single mom trying to do the best she can for her sons.  I am reluctant to recommend it to others because this prude thought the sex scenes were too graphic.  The last scene had me quickly looking for Tyler's book.  

 

I rate it 3 stars out of 5.
