I borrowed this memoir on Overdrive from my local library.
I eagerly anticipate the new Maisie Dobbs novels by this author, and looked forward to her memoir. She writes about her childhood and her relationship with her family of origin. It was nice to read about her extended family during 2020 Thanksgiving season when we are socially distanced from our own extended family.
I recommend it to all readers who enjoy memoirs and to all readers who enjoy this author's novels.

I enjoy this series by Winspear so much that I eagerly anticipate each new release. I like these continuing characters so much that I really empathize with the wartime struggles they must endure on the homefront.

As soon as I read this book had a waiting list at my library, I requested a copy and was already 14th in line for the book. I enjoyed the book so much that I read it in two days.

This is the twelveth book in the Maisie Dobbs series and I do not know of any serial character who has been so many personal difficulties and continues to show growth. Congratulations for Jacqueline Winspear for what must be challenging work to be so well-done. I enjoyed this mystery more than the last book because the tension of the suspense kept me turning pages as fast as I could read. There were still some turns in the plot that bothered me as I did not understand why they were given so many pages in this mystery. Perhaps those small details were set-ups for future books, and I hope there will be more to come.

I recommend this book for fans of the series. If a new-to-the series reader enjoys it, I hope the reader wants to go back and enjoy some of the other books.

I eagerly anticipated the eleventh book of the Maisie Dobbs series, and I was not disappointed.
The book opens in Spring 1937. A lot of life happened to Maisie since the last book, Leaving Everything Most Loved. She is on her way home to England when she decides to stop in Gibralter. "It was a certain resolve, a knowledge that the only way out of the abyss was to prove something to herself--that she could be brave, that she could be survive and be strong." And by the time I finished this book, I eagerly anticipate Maisie may live a lot more life before she is in England when she tells everyone to expect her, and I eagerly anticipate that next book.
I recommend this book; but I recommend new readers go start back earlier in the series so that they can appreciate the character growth that Winspear has allowed all of her characters and the fascinating way Winspear weaves mysteries within the social history of previous generations.

The Care and Management of Lies LP: A Novel of the Great War by Jacqueline Winspear

I am acquainted with this author's work from the Maisie Dobbs mysteries, and I eagerly anticipated this novel about a different perspective of the time in history Winspear where Winspear began her series.

I kept reading because I wanted to read the stories of Kezia and her schoolfriend Dorrit, who now prefers to be called Thea, as they mature from schoolgirls to their disparate adult roles. Kezia marries Thea's brother Tom and becomes a farm wife in Kent. Thea demonstrates for women's suffrage and then for pacifism as the war with Germany begins. Tom enlists, thinking the war will be over before spring planting.

Winspear's mysteries were always more than most cozy mysteries with themes and echoes of our own history showing in the time period about which she writes. This stand alone novel lets her more fully explore customs, forms and ceremonies we all rely on to bring comfort and to keep our lives from unraveling. I recommend this book to all readers.

Leaving Everything Most Loved by Jacqueline Winspear

This is the tenth Maisie Dobbs book, and I eagerly look forward to each new one. I was not disappointed. Winspear does a good job of creating the atmosphere of 1932 London as she needs the information to bring progress to the story of Maisie's investigation into the murder of an Indian woman and Billie Beale's investigation into the disappearance of a teenaged boy. I enjoy the complexity Winspear gives to the characters.
I recommend this to fans of the series and to first-time readers.

A Lesson in Secrets by Jacqueline Winspear

I enjoyed the most recent Maisie Dobbs novel. An undercover assignment from the British Secret Service allows her to meet other people in England who she would be unlikely to meet from the usual casework of her investigative agency. There is plenty of work for Billie at the detective agency. Along the way, you learn something about Britain in 1932.
