This book has been in my personal library since 2021. It was written in 2017 as a memoir for his attempt to win the Republican nomination for presidential candidate in 2020.
Kasich did not support Trump; he supported the office and suggested problem solving must begin in your local community with local programs that can be shown to work.

This story has a premise that is still current: trauma from violent social media bullying, and yet the author gives hope by telling this one story about a person who takes steps to get back to doing what she loves: teaching at the college level.

The chapters of 6-year old Aida's escape from Bosnia kept me turning pages, and I had difficulty reading the rest of her story. I found this quote to ring true. "This is not a life; it’s just slow, continuous suffering. For him and for us.”

Procrastinators Get Stuff Done: How to Go from Overwhelmed to Finished by Dana K. White

I pre-ordered the book, and I started with the bonuses available for pre-ordering. I have been using her five decluttering steps to work on large projects, and I came to the point where so much now is Maintenance and Consolidation. This book helps me understand how I can move forward better because she clarified the difference between Projects that have a finish and Maintenance which needs premade decisions to keep up with current tasks.
I began a shared project of scanning photos of ancestors and elder relatives in 2009 to be able to share. That project was completed to external hard drives and a website I used to share with family members, and that website went out of business. After I moved 9 years ago, that project morphed into scanning photos that had been framed but no longer fit on walls in the new house and photos that I had not put into albums. Both of those are finished and stored on external hard drives and clouds.
I have been scanning albums of photos taken with film in my personal collection because I need to consolidate from albums into space available on external hard drives or the cloud, and this is a PROJECT. While MAINTENANCE is needed to curate photos I take digitally and receive from texts.
I am often discouraged when technology changes, when websites for sharing close, and this book helps me know how to restart and pick back up to move forward.
I will re-read it, and I recommend it.

Aging in Place: Navigating the Maze of Long-Term Care by Mary Mashburn

A book with a similar name was recommended to me and this is the one I could borrow from from my library with my Hoopla app. I read this book for information, and I would have preferred that it be in a checklist form with steps that needed to be done step-by-step. There are some recommended websites and I would have preferred they be in one section instead they are available in the text.
I gave this book 3 stars because it provoked some anxiety nightmares.

Healing Her Cowboy by Kay Stockham

This e-book has been in My Digital Library since August 9, 2019. Chick-lit/romances are a genre I enjoy reading for entertainment.
I had some problems with the storyline for the justifications Grace used, rape of a minor is not as bad as incest, and the justification the sheriff told Jake when Jake tried to get help for Grace when Jake saw her physical injuries, she might have been in more danger if she went into foster care/group homes. Those justifications kept this book from earning any higher stars from me.
There is a happy ending.

I enjoy reading cozy mysteries for entertainment. I appreciate the logic the author has for why our FMC wants to know more about the original contract on the house to explain why she wants to know/why she is curious about how it came to be on the market when the owner has significant cognitive decline.
this story was fun to read, and I recommend it to tohers who enjoy cozy mysteries.

Robert E. Lee on Leadership: Executive Lessons in Character, Courage, and Vision by H.W. Crocker III

This book has been in our home library since 2009 because my husband enjoys the study of the Civil War era.
This book is more about educating young adults about what Robert E. Lee has to teach future leaders . At the end of chapters the author offeres 2-8 points which the author calls "Lee's Lessons." If these "Lee's Lessons" are the only information a reader takes the time to read and then to strive to incorporate into the reader's life, the act of doing so will be worth the effort.
I recommend this book, and wish some current politicians might learn from it.

Fair Are the Meadows: Christian Historical Fiction with Small Town Romance Set on the Frontier of Midwestern America by Lauraine Snelling


I borrowed this book from my local library. I requested it as soon as I found out it would be relased soon because I read the first two books in the trilogy. I enjoy the stories of these pioneers.
There were sections of the book when verses of hymns were added in the story. Perhaps this would have been more effective in an audiobook. To this reader, it felt more like page-filler.
I still recommend this book to readers of this genre and fans of books by these authors.

The Castle in the Glen by Rhys Bowen

I borrowed this book from my local library because I enjoy reading most books by Rhys Bowen.
I was surprised by the format of this book because the two stories set in different time periods are given different fonts to distinguish between a current time period and the manuscript set in the 1930s. I found this helpful. I got caught up in the mystery story in the manuscript, and I was eager to travel with Emma to Scotland and the Island of Skye.
I gave this novel 5 stars because there are no Nazis in this standalone novel.

Why I begin my reviews from when and where I downloaded ebooks

In 2023 I started this project of reading the books I downloaded for free from Barnes & Nobles' #Free Friday promotions to My Digital Library.
I started downloading free downloads in 2009. By the end of 2009, I dowloaded 45 e-books.

My current project started as a way to declutter my Want to Read Shelf by deleting after I read and review the books.

I continue to enjoy looking forward to seeing what will be promoted each week, and additional titles are downloaded. My Want to Read shelf contains e-books downloaded from Barnes and Noble, Kindle books downloaded from Amazon's First Reads pomotions, and hardcover books from our household library.
I had 400 titles on my Goodreads.com Want to Read shelf in the beginning of 2025 and 368 titles on that self at the beginning of 2026.
There are currently 341 books on My Want to Read shelf, and that total includes about 225 e-books from My Digital Library.

I enjoy meeting the characters of Lacey Pinkerton, the other shop owners in Port Danby, and the police detective Briggs. I appreciate cozy novels where the lead character can provide clues without making the detective appear incompetent.

I borrowed this book from my local library on the Hoopla app. It was only available as an audiobook from my library.
I am glad that books by Lauraine Snelling and Kiersti Giron continue telling me stories about the immigrants who settle in Iowa in the 1890s because those stories tell me about what farm life may have been like for my great-grandparents who lived in Ohio (and were not immigrants.)

This book has been listed in my Goodreads library since 2015 since my dad wanted me to read it. Dad was a constabulary officer who was on patrol when he came upon the scene of General Patton was going to be loaded in the ambulance. Dad offered to help and was ordered to continue on his patrol.

I give this book only 2 stars because I did not like the format of the book and the distraction of stories of survivors of the Holocaust.
I finished it when I read it on a 5 hour ride home after vacation.

I would have shelved it as a Young Adult book since Nikki Kill was still coping with high school, but this elderly reader does not want to believe high school students smoke, have sex, and have to solve mysteries about brutal attacks.
Nikki's fight scenes go into too much detail to show the author's knowledge of tae kwon do.
