Once We Are Safe: A Novel by Alessandra Carati
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I downloaded from Amazon when this was offered free First Reads in March 3, 2026.
The chapters of 6-year old Aida's escape from Bosnia kept me turning pages, and I had difficulty reading the rest of her story. I found this quote to ring true. "This is not a life; it’s just slow, continuous suffering. For him and for us.”
