Speaking from Among the Bones by Alan Bradley

I am a fan of the series, and I eagerly anticipated the release of Speaking from Among the Bones.

I enjoy the voice and character Bradley gives to the eleven-year-old sleuth Flavia de Luce and the voices and characters given to her supporting cast in her family and the village of Bishop's Lacey, and I am pulled into her imaginative and inquisitive world as fast as her bicycle Gladys will take us. With the last five words, I eagerly anticipate the next novel.

I recommend this for fans of the series, and I recommend new readers start with The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie.

I Am Half-Sick of Shadows by Alan Bradley

As soon as I learned there would be another Flavia de Luce mystery, I requested it from my library. I am thoroughly entertained by this eleven-year-old girl who uses the chemistry lab to mix up birdlime to trap Father Christmas. If you are a reader of the series, you quickly find characters who inhabit her world. It is plausible that her father agrees a movie crew can film at their estate to supply money that is is needed, and this provides more people for for Flavia to be curious about. A murder occurs during a blizzard that traps many townspeople at the estate too, and the story becomes a country estate murder story that will keep you reading and guessing.

I recommend it to fans of the series, and suggest new readers start with the first,The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie.

I was not disappointed in the second novel in the Flavia De Luce series. This eleven-year old detective involves us in yet another mystery in her village and the farms in the area of her ancestral home.
Books in the Flavia de Luce series have been published in 34 countries and 31 languages. There seems to be no excuse for you not to try one.
