About Me

I'm a reader who enjoys posting comments and recommendations about the books I read. You will not find a synopsis with my recommendations because you can just click on the book title for a link to www.goodreads.com for a synopsis and reviews by other readers. I prefer the 3 Reason format: the reason I chose to read it; the reason I liked (or disliked) the book; and the reason I recommend it.

Wicked River: The Mississippi When It Last Ran WildWicked River: The Mississippi When It Last Ran Wild by Lee Sandlin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In my library since my last trip on American Queen in 2016. I hoped to read it before a trip for the length of the Mississippi. My planned trip for July 2021 was cancelled due to CDC protocols. I am now rebooked on a trip on American Empress for this fall 2021 on a different river.

I enjoyed the history this book had to tell.

Come Hell or High WaterCome Hell or High Water by Michael Gillespie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I purchased this book onboard American Queen Steamboat during a vacation in October 2016, and I want to read this before I board again in 2021.

The narrative is entertaining.
This history is well-written and documented with the historical sources used. This book has an index, a glossary, and a selected bibliography at the end of the book. Footnotes are at the end of the chapters.

The House by the RiverThe House by the River by Lena Manta
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I downloaded this to my Kindle library in 2018 as part of Amazon's World Crossing promotion.
The stories of Theodora, Julia, and Theodora's five daughters felt like different archetypal stories that women may relate to or relate to their own female friends.
I took away a star because I found too much repetition in the last chapters as the book and its conflicts resolved
