About Me

My photo
I'm a reader who enjoys posting comments and recommendations about the books I read. You will not find a synopsis with my recommendations because you can just click on the book title for a link to www.goodreads.com for a synopsis and reviews by other readers. I prefer the 3 Reason format: the reason I chose to read it; the reason I liked (or disliked) the book; and the reason I recommend it.

To Love Anew (Sydney Cove, #1)To Love Anew by Bonnie Leon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This ebook has been in my Nook library since I downloaded it in Oct 2012 when it was free. It is historical fiction that feels well-researched. It is strongly Christian fiction.
I recommend it to any reader who enjoys this genre.

Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Barnes and Noble offered this ebook as its Serial Read for March 2019.
It is an interesting origin story set in a dystopian future, and it begins a series. I think this content may be appropriate for older YA readers, those who are about the same age as our protagonists.

SpinningSpinning by Michael Baron
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I downloaded this ebook to my Nook library when it was free in 2012. It is a human interest story with interesting characters. It lost a star for me because I kept wondering why D didn't consult a lawyer before the second crisis.

How to Make Disease DisappearHow to Make Disease Disappear by Rangan Chatterjee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I heard about Dr. Chatterjee's book when I listened to his Masterclass on the Calm.com app for meditation. He talked about the 4 pillars of health: relaxation, food, movement, and sleep. His discussion sounded familiar to the AIM company's priorities of what is needed for cell health, and I found it familiar and encouraging to do what I know works since I sold their products for more than 10 years. The emphasis on relaxation and sleep is the area which needs a better balance for me as my health continues to improve.
I recommend this for all readers, and I recommend you try just one new suggestion at a time to make them a daily habit.

The Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, How They Communicate—Discoveries from A Secret WorldThe Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, How They Communicate—Discoveries from A Secret World by Peter Wohlleben
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book will be the April 2019 selection for our neighborhood book club.
Since it has been a lifetime ago since college, I rarely read a nonfiction book that has me wanting to take notes and wanting to get my facts straight when I tell people how important this information is. I live in a new development (less than 12 years old), and nearly every tree in this development is a street kid. The only older trees are trees that once bordered a farmers' fence line.
I look forward to the discussion at the April meeting.

The FeyThe Fey by Claudia Hall Christian
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I downloaded this ebook to my Nook library when it was free in 2012.
I kept reading this book out of stubbornness, because I wanted a better explanation of memory sequences, a better explanation of who characters are, and I just wanted it to make sense. It bugged me to no end that this author called Max and Alex identical twins when this genetic genealogist wanted to say they could only be xx and xxy which is a Klinefelter variant or xx and xo which is Turner syndrome, and Alex would not be as viable as she is in this book.
I do not recommend this book.

In Farleigh FieldIn Farleigh Field by Rhys Bowen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have enjoyed many of the series by Rhys Bowen, and this is a stand-alone novel.
The fifth star was given because, at a certain point, I could not put the book down until I was finished and saw how it ended. I hope this book does the same for other readers who enjoy historical novels of the WWll era.

Dakota Destiny (Dakota Series Book 5)Dakota Destiny by Lauraine Snelling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This completes the Dakota series that I have been reading with my 92-year old father. He was born after this time period, and still this book triggers some stories of his own life on a farm in rural southwest Ohio.
