About Me

I'm a reader who enjoys posting comments and recommendations about the books I read. You will not find a synopsis with my recommendations because you can just click on the book title for a link to www.goodreads.com for a synopsis and reviews by other readers. I prefer the 3 Reason format: the reason I chose to read it; the reason I liked (or disliked) the book; and the reason I recommend it.

The Source: The Secrets of the Universe, the Science of the BrainThe Source: The Secrets of the Universe, the Science of the Brain by Tara Swart
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I borrowed this ebook on the Hoopla app from my local library.
I listened to an interview with this author on the "Feel Better, Live More" podcast. The episode is titled, "How to Create Your Dream Future: Life After Lockdown."
I do not give more than 3 stars because, as with so many self-help books, there is a ton of filler which could be titled "How I Did It" and also "Good Results A Few of My Clients Got."
There is lots of homework suggested for every reader so I am sure that there may be something to help because we humans have the capability to be resilient.

Pandemic: Tracking Contagions, from Cholera to Ebola and BeyondPandemic: Tracking Contagions, from Cholera to Ebola and Beyond by Sonia Shah
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I heard an author interview in 2020 promoting her next book. I heard this interview during the COVID-19 Pandemic. It seemed like NOW was the time I should be reading this book. I just had to wait until my library had curbside pickup for the requested hardcover books.
Shah does not predict this particular novel corona virus. She explains history of past epidemics and how our human behaviors keep us from learning to be as prepared as we might need to be. She addresses wrong information, complacency, irrational fear, and indifference which are some behaviors I observed and did not understand.

A Place Called ArmageddonA Place Called Armageddon by C.C. Humphreys
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This ebook has been in my Nook library since 2013 when it was offered for free from Barnes and Noble.
It is well-researched historical fiction with a bibliography in the back of the book. I am glad it started with a "Dramatis Personae" because that helped me keep the many characters with names unfamiliar to me straight until those characters became more vivid in my imagination. Humphreys is an excellent story-teller.
I recommend it to those readers who enjoy epic historical fiction.

From Notting Hill with Love... Actually (Actually #1)From Notting Hill with Love... Actually by Ali McNamara
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This ebook has been in my Nook library since 2012 when I downloaded it for free from Barnes & Noble. I enjoy a good romantic-comedy, and this involves the wild imagination of our protagonist who escapes boredom and indecision through the cinema.
It is entertaining.

She Makes It Look EasyShe Makes It Look Easy by Marybeth Mayhew Whalen
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This ebook has been in my Nook library since I downloaded it when Barnes & Noble offered it for free.
This book has discussion questions and recipes. I thought it was too heavy on its message that Christian women should be wary of women who say they are Christian but do not behave like a good Christian should.
