About Me

My photo
I'm a reader who enjoys posting comments and recommendations about the books I read. You will not find a synopsis with my recommendations because you can just click on the book title for a link to www.goodreads.com for a synopsis and reviews by other readers. I prefer the 3 Reason format: the reason I chose to read it; the reason I liked (or disliked) the book; and the reason I recommend it.

The Question of RedThe Question of Red by Laksmi Pamuntjak
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This book has been in my Kindle library since April 2018 when I downloaded it as part of Amazon's Read-The-World promotion.
It reminded me how little I know about Indonesian culture and how little I paid attention to the political events in Indonesia at the time these events occurred.

The HermitageThe Hermitage by Mikhail Piortrovsky
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was purchased at a port side gift shop at St. Petersburg, Russia as a souvenir of our cruise and the two days we had at the Hermitage. The plates of the art works are beautiful and the text is informative. This book was offered in several different languages and we made certain we had the English edition. It is a large and heavy book that I brought home in my backpack because I did not want to lose it. I had to sit the book on a high table to read.

The Declutter Challenge: A Guided Journal for Getting your Home Organized in 30 Quick Steps (Guided Journal for Decorating, For Fans of Cluttered Mess and Zen as F*ck)The Declutter Challenge: A Guided Journal for Getting your Home Organized in 30 Quick Steps by Cassandra Aarssen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a guided journal. You will get out of it what you put into it by writing your reflections on the questions, suggestions, and do-it-now tasks.

The title says 30 Quick Steps but I need more than 30 days of 15-minute tasks to do what must be done to my stored sentimental items that I kept for my hobby of writing family history and genealogy, my hobby of organizing photos into digital copies that are tagged with the names of the people in the photos with the goal of making photo books, and my hobby of reading. I am making daily progress to reduce space these items have used in the past to make room to expand the storage for the art hobbies I had time to explore during the 2020 pandemic.

This book is helping me build on what I used from the information with Marie Kondo. I was really stuck when the category came to Sentimental and I stored too much stuff in my organized hobby closet and organized garage shelves. Other family members do not share my hobby of genealogy and my memories attached to what I stored. The time to declutter these totes is sooner rather than later. The time to organize with the goal of preparing the collection for an appropriate family history archive is sooner rather than later.

The Clutter Connection: How Your Personality Type Determines Why You Organize the Way You DoThe Clutter Connection: How Your Personality Type Determines Why You Organize the Way You Do by Cassandra Aarssen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I borrowed this ebook on the Hoopla app from my local library after I finished reading Aarssen's Real Life Organizing. Most of the information is the similar.
I like the emphasis she puts on how to live with/compromise with different clutterbugs in the same household or same workplace.
I need the emphasis she puts on overcoming perfectionism in order to get something done and make some progress. I am currently working on finding homes for projects that gained a higher priority during more time at home during a pandemic, and also micro-organizing what had been macro-organized so that non-essential items may be donated or discarded.

Art Before Breakfast: A Zillion Ways to Be More Creative No Matter How Busy You AreArt Before Breakfast: A Zillion Ways to Be More Creative No Matter How Busy You Are by Danny Gregory
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I used the Hoopla app to borrow this book from my local library. I had difficulty getting the size of the hand-lettered text the right size for me to read easily. I did not have has much trouble with the regular font type.
The author's enthusiasm for this topic and zillion suggestions for what you can draw for 10-minutes whenever and wherever you find your own 10-minutes will have you pulling out your sketchpad, or receipt, and drawing whatever captures your attention.

The Victory GardenThe Victory Garden by Rhys Bowen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoy reading books written by Rhys Bowen. Her stories pull me along, and I'm quickly done.
I did take away one star because I had difficulty feeling the time of the book even though the overleaf of the book jacket stated The Great War. For the longest time, I felt time setting was during WWII, and then I realized I was mistaken, and it felt jarring.
I recommend it for fans of the author.
