I'm a reader who enjoys posting comments and recommendations about the books I read. You will not find a synopsis with my recommendations because you can just click on the book title for a link to www.goodreads.com for a synopsis and reviews by other readers. I prefer the 3 Reason format: the reason I chose to read it; the reason I liked (or disliked) the book; and the reason I recommend it.

Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher: The Epic Life and Immortal Photographs of Edward CurtisShort Nights of the Shadow Catcher: The Epic Life and Immortal Photographs of Edward Curtis by Timothy Egan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was recommended as the November 2020 Book Club selection from Indianapolis' Eiteljorg Museum of Western and Indian Art. I was aware Edward Curtis was a photographer, but I never gave much thought about his life story before this book.

Egan makes this non-fiction book as easy to read as a narrative novel, and that is a talent and craft I appreciate. It also made me question why a nation built with a freedom of religion as a basic right would do as much as possible to destroy the religion of these indigenous people. This was nothing I thought about before this book.

I highly recommend this book to all readers.

I enjoyed this celebrity memoir and I recommend it to all my friends who watch Jeopardy.

The Devil's Revolver (The Devil's Revolver #1)The Devil's Revolver by V.S. McGrath
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This ebook was the October 2020 Serial Reads from Barnes and Noble. A consecutive chapter is available daily to read on Nooks.
This was in the genre of a western with magic. The story was interesting and the pacing was excellent as it held my interest. It loses a star as I cannot think of a friend to whom I might recommend this book.
There are four books in this series.

Christmas with the Sheriff (Shadow Creek, Montana, #1)Christmas with the Sheriff by Victoria James
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I downloaded this to my Nook library whenever Barnes and Noble offered it for free. It was one of the few I was authorized to download to an SD card in my Nook. I'm glad to have some I may save to an SD card because I was able to read it when Nook's servers were under attack around October 11, 2020.
It is a Christian fiction romance that I can recommend to friends who also enjoy this genre.

The Light of the FirefliesThe Light of the Fireflies by Paul Pen
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I downloaded this Kindle book when it was offered as part of their 2018 World Crossing event or Read the World event.
This may be a book in the psychological suspense genre, and it is not my favorite genre, and that is why I gave it only two stars.

Searching for Coach TaylorSearching for Coach Taylor by Mindy Kaling
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I downloaded this group of essays when the offer was free-with-Prime.
The essays are humorous looks on life from the author's perspective. Four stars for helping me find some humor, and worth recommending to others.

Securing Caite (SEAL of Protection: Legacy, #1)Securing Caite by Susan Stoker
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This ebook has been in my Nook library since Sept. 13, 2020. It was already downloaded for me to read during the time Barnes and Noble had an attack on its servers when I could not access an ebook I got for free in 2013.

I enjoy the suspense of this story. I took away a star because this prude would feel uncomfortable recommending it to friends for those scenes when the romance turned erotic.

Maggie's JourneyMaggie's Journey by Lena Nelson Dooley
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This ebook has been in my Nook library since 2013 when I downloaded it for free.
It is an entertaining story set in historic times. I knew it was Christian fiction, and it is a problem when the author gets a bit heavy-handed with its MESSAGE of trust the Lord when this reader wants to hasten the pace of the story.

The Tube Riders (Tube Riders Trilogy #1)The Tube Riders by Chris Ward
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This ebook has been in my Nook library since May 15, 2015. I chose this one to read after I finished one by the same author. The title changed in 2015 from The Tube Riders to Underground.

This author does a good job of world-building and creating a cast of characters the reader cares about. I am not in the mood for dystopian fiction, and I will not seek out the next volume in this trilogy.

Awakening and Selected Short FictionAwakening and Selected Short Fiction by Kate Chopin
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I finally finished the last of the Barnes and Noble Classics in my library since I bought my first Nook.
I'm grateful for the easy-to-use footnotes that explain words that are out-of-use. This is not a cheerful book, and it is not easy to read during a pandemic when its protagonist is feeling trapped by society and her marriage. The short fictions were not easy to read either.

The Children of First ManThe Children of First Man by James Alexander Thom
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book has been in my home library probably since its publication date of 1997. I read his Panther in the Sky and enjoyed it. Back then, I had the hobby of buying books that I wanted to read "some day," and twenty-three years elapsed until I read it.

It is excellent historical fiction that reimagines what may have happened to the Welsh prince Madoc and descendants of the families who traveled with him to the land of Iaghral over 700-years.

I highly recommend this book.

The Girl Beneath the Sea (Underwater Investigation Unit #1)The Girl Beneath the Sea by Andrew Mayne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I downloaded it for free-with my prime subscription when it was offered as a First Reads for April 2020.
I enjoy this mystery for the suspenseful pacing as new characters are introduced. This is the origin story of Underwater Investigation Unit, and how Sloan MacPherson and George Solar came to work together.
I recommend this book.
