About Me

My photo
I'm a reader who enjoys posting comments and recommendations about the books I read. You will not find a synopsis with my recommendations because you can just click on the book title for a link to www.goodreads.com for a synopsis and reviews by other readers. I prefer the 3 Reason format: the reason I chose to read it; the reason I liked (or disliked) the book; and the reason I recommend it.

To Die But Once (Maisie Dobbs #14)To Die But Once by Jacqueline Winspear
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am a fan of the Maisie Dobbs series, and I looked forward to reading this book.
I was emotionally involved with the stress these characters encountered during this book, and that is why it gets the fifth star.
I recommend the series to readers who enjoy a different take on historical fiction.

The Tuscan ChildThe Tuscan Child by Rhys Bowen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I borrowed this book from my public library because I enjoy reading this author's books.
This book is not part of a series. It is an interesting story that makes a smooth transition between related stories set in 1944 and 1973.
I think any reader who enjoys historical fiction or enjoys the mystery of trying to piece together a story about the artifacts our deceased ancestors leave behind without the documentation we need to understand their history might enjoy this book.

Zoo Nebraska: The Dismantling of an American DreamZoo Nebraska: The Dismantling of an American Dream by Carson Vaughan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a free First Reads from Amazon Prime in March 2019.
The author states,"This is a book of narrative nonfiction, or literary journalism, and as such I've relied solely on verifiable information, using only real names, dates, and events."
I recommend it to readers who want to know more than headlines about current events.

My Brother's BattleMy Brother's Battle by Meredith Allard
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I downloaded this ebook for free to my Nook library from Barnes and Noble in 2012.
This historical fiction uses the history of real men and includes the fictional characters to expound on ways that may be possible for brothers to chose different armies in which to serve.
Readers who enjoy historical fiction set in this era may enjoy the book.

The Urban Sketching Handbook: Working with Color: Techniques for Using Watercolor and Color Media on the GoThe Urban Sketching Handbook: Working with Color: Techniques for Using Watercolor and Color Media on the Go by Shari Blaukopf
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I put this book on my Wish List because I had previously taken two classes with Ms. Blaukopf at Craftsy.com (now Bluprint.com.) I occasionally follow her blog https://shariblaukopf.com/

There are 25 Challenges at the end of the book that provide ideas for practice.

I consider this book an Aspirational Read because many of the ideas for practice are above my beginner skill level and many artists provided their art for different ways of using similar techniques.
